So What Can Be Done about ADD?



The first thing someone who thinks they might have ADD should do is seek out a Psychologist or Psychiatrist. Preferably, a Mental Health professional that has experience with diagnosing and treating ADD. This is important because even now some people don't know much about ADD. After someone is diagnosed with ADD they usually are referred to a MD to get medicine used to treat the disorder. This can really be a trial and error process. Sometimes it takes evaluating several medicines before the one that works best for the patient is found. Dosage size is also something that will just be something the patient will have to deal with. The dose take at first could be too much and make the patient feel nervous but half of that dose could be perfect. Some of the most common medicines us in treatment of ADD are.....

Medications


Ritalin: the first medicine used to treat ADD, it is the drug of choice used by most patients. It is a stimulant. Adderall: appropriately named is a fairly new stimulant used for ADD. It is gaining in popularity especially among adults with ADD.
Prozac: a antidepressant that seems to work for some people with ADD symptoms, and to treat the depression some people with ADD also have at the same time Wellbutrin:a antidepressant in the same class as Prozac has had some promise for people who haven't responded well to stimulant medication
